Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness Grant

Funding for the Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness (HMEP) grant is provided to Montana Disaster and Emergency Services (MT DES) by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). Funding under this program is critical to ensuring the safe transportation of hazardous materials by training emergency responders and funding planning activities such as commodity flow studies, tabletop exercises and emergency response plan development. PHMSA’s training goal is to ensure that responders who receive training under the grant will have the ability to protect nearby persons, property, and the environment from the effects of accidents or incidents involving the transportation of hazardous materials.
